Jim Gavin will stay on for another two years as Dublin manager, after agreeing a deal with the Dublin County Board last November.

"A week after the All-Ireland semi-final I met county board chairman [the late] Andy Kettle and chief executive John Costello to quickly review the year that had gone by," said Gavin ahead of Sunday’s Leinster quarter-final against Longford in Croke Park.

Since taking over from Pat Gilroy in 2013, Gavin has lead the Dubs to three Allianz Football League titles, two Leinster Championship and one All-Ireland.

“We just met to quickly review the year that went by. Obviously we needed to meet to see where I was at and where they thought I was at.

“So the outcome of that meeting was that I was going to go essentially for another three years. That was ratified at the Dublin county board committee meeting some time in November.”

The 43-year-old enjoyed a successful spell in charge of the U21 side, leading them to All Ireland titles in 2010 and 2012.

The news surfaces before Dublin’s championship opener against Longford this weekend. Gavin is likely to be without Rory O’Carroll, as well as Ger Brennan and James McCarthy.
