Tim Tebow, the somewhat polarising quarterback, has been released by the New York Jets after just one year at the franchise. Tebow had been pushed to the fringes of the Jets' quarterback roster as he had fallen out of favour over the course of last year, with his role moving from a quarterback to a utility player.
With the drafting of West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith last week, the Jets appeared to consign Tebow’s career with them to the scrapheap as they had a total of 6 QB’s on the roster.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan said of Tebow:
"Unfortunately, things did not work out the way he all had hoped.
"Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward."
