Donegal's Jason Quigley is continuing to impress American audiences after a first round knockout of Freddy Lopez on Friday night in California.

The 2013 World Amateur Championship silver medallist has now ten wins from ten fights as a professional with nine of those wins coming inside the distance.

Quigley defeated Lopez with a flurry of punches to the liver. The 30-year-old Mexican was a late replacement to fight "El Animal".

Speaking after the fight, Quigley told The Ring TV that his plan was to take his time, despite the first-round knockout. "This is professional boxing, this isn't amateur boxing no more. You have to work the body. You have to tire these guys out".

With the late change of opponent, Quigley said his amateur background helped him prepare for the fight. "I know if I get into the ring 110% prepared, anybody facing me across the ring is in for one hell of a fight."

Although Quigley's next opponent has not yet been revealed, the first-round knockout may see him return to the ring before the summer.
