Some actors go to extremes for their roles. Daniel-Day Lewis is famed for his immerse approach to his craft – learning to kill his own food for Last of the Mohicans and spending nights locked in an abandoned prison for In the Name of the Father. While it might not be on the level of the three-time Oscar winner’s fanatic dedication, today Jamie Dornan has admitted he used his own specialised, and quite creepy, technique to prepare for his role in TV series The Fall.

Dornan, speaking to the LA Times, has admitted he followed a woman, without her knowledge, to prepare for the role.

Dornan reluctantly revealed his bout with real life stalking, saying:

"The first series, I did do a couple of things to try to get inside [his mind]. On the tube, which is our underground system - can we get arrested for this? Hold on ... this is a really bad reveal: I, like, followed a woman off the train one day.

The Fifty Shades of Grey star said he did it, “to see what it felt like to pursue someone like that."

The Northern Irishman followed the woman for a few blocks before lurking behind her once she reached her destination. He said the experience helped him understand his character, the disturbed killer Paul Spector.

"It felt kind of exciting, in a really sort of dirty way," he said.

"I'm sort of not proud of myself. But I do honestly think I learned something from it, because I've obviously never done any of that. It was intriguing and interesting to enter that process of 'what are you following her for?' and 'what are you trying to find out?,” he said.
