Crossmaglen's Jamie Clarke has dropped the biggest hint yet, that he is set to return to the Armagh setup in 2017.

The forward, spent 2016 away from the team, basing himself in New York in the second half of the year. Clarke even played some football for NY Shamrocks in the city's Cosmopolitan League.

Clarke missed the eight-point loss to Cavan in last summer's Ulster Championship before Armagh lost to Laois on two occasions in the Football Qualifiers.

When announcing he was to move to the American east coast, Clarke had to deny it was due to Kieran McGeeney's management of Armagh. The two look set to work together next week.

One of the best forwards in Ulster, if Clarke does return, he could feature as early as January 8th in the opening round of the Dr. McKenna Cup. Armagh's Allianz League campaign begins, away to Sligo in early February.

Clarke could return to Championship action for the first time since Armagh lost to Galway in July 2015, when the team meet Down in the Ulster Championship quarter-finals.
