James McClean was busy on social media this afternoon, first tweeting a reaction to Brexit before deleting the tweet and ultimately deleting his entire account.

He tweeted a photograph of himself with Martin McGuinness along with the implication that Brexit would result in a renewed attempt at a united Ireland.

McClean started his career at Derry City where he was born and has been on the end of social media abuse before for his nationalistic views. He refused to wear a poppy and wrote a letter explaining exactly why.

In it, he said: "If the poppy was simply about World War One and Two victims alone, I would wear it without a problem.

"I'd wear it every day of the year if that was the thing, but it doesn't – it stands for all the conflicts that Britain has been involved in.

"Because of the history of where I come from in Derry, I cannot wear something that represents that."
