Despite the fact that Inter Milan share a city with a major club like AC Milan, the biggest rivalry has generally been with Juventus.
The two have long slugged it out in the Derby D'Italia. But the fact that one of Juve's league titles was given to Inter Milan following the Calipoli scandal, has seen the rivalry become increasingly bitter.
That was highlighted this week when both clubs tried to finalize a swap deal involving Inter's Fredy Guarin and Juve's Mirko Vucinic.
Irate ultras got wind of the development and voiced their outrage which has stalled the deal.
The two clubs have a long history of transfer dealings - which usually work out in Juventus' favour - which Italian football expert James Horncastle detailed in an excellent ESPN article.
He joined us tonight to talk about the festering problems between both teams.
"Inter require a striker because they have struggled to score of late. They have identified Juventus' Mirko Vucinic as someone they would like to bring in. Since they were taken over by Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir, the policy has been that they need to sell to buy.
"Juventus couldn't believe their luck when Inter proposed that they would swap a key difference maker for a player warming the bench. There was an outcry from Inter supporters and ultimately the protests of the fans prompted Inter to call it off. But by that time, it looked so embarrassing for Inter because it revealed them as incompetent."
