Straight Blast Gym's James Gallagher recorded an emphatic first round submission win over Chinzo Machida at Bellator 180 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The "Strabanimal" raced across the ring at the start of the bout, exchanged a few blows and took Machida to the ground relatively easily.

Gallagher transitioned into full mount before turning Machida and locking in a body triangle.

The inevitable end to the bout happened moments later when the Brazilian tapped out with 2:39 left in the first round.

The 20-year-old Irishman improves to 6-0 and, speaking afterwards, said: "I’m always here for the first-round finish, when it’s there, I come and do it.”

In the main event, Chael Sonnen and Wanderlai Silva finally squared off in a much anticipated grudge-match. The American dominated the bout with his wrestling and was awarded a unanimous decision victory.

Elsewhere on the night, Matt Mitrione stopped Fedor Emelianenko while there were also wins for Brett Primus, Zach Freeman and Douglas Lima against Michale Chandler, Aaron Pico and Lorenz Larkin.

In the main event on the undercard, Ryan Bader became light-heavyweight champion after a split-decision win over Phil Davis.
