Branislav Ivanovic was extra-time hero as Chelsea beat Liverpool 1-0 in the second leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final.

After neither side could manage a goal during a thrilling 90 minute battle which saw plenty of chances at both ends and Blues striker Diego Costa courting controversy with stamps on Liverpool defenders, Chelsea finally broke the deadlock just four minutes into extra-time when the Serbian defender powered home a header from a Willian free-kick.

The Reds should have been level just minutes later when Jordan Henderson headed wide from close-range.

But Chelsea hung on to reach the final for the first time since 2008 where they will face either London rivals Tottenham or League One Sheffield United.
