Martin O'Neill says that the ball is now firmly in Stephen Ireland's court after revealing the that the Stoke midfielder has failed to return any of his calls.
The 27-year-old has once again been left out of the final Republic of Ireland for their upcoming end-of-season friendly series.
"I’ve left it in a situation where I’ll not call. It’s really up to Stephen. If he wants to call me, fine," said the Ireland manager.
O'Neill has confirmed a 29-man squad for the matches against Turkey, Italy, Costa Rica and Portugal, with James McCarthy, Joey O'Brien and Darren Randolph the three players that have been cut from the initial 32-man panel.
McCarthy has been ruled out of the end-of-season matches with an ankle injury, while O'Brien had already indicated that he did not wish to be considered.
In the absence of Randolph, Newcastle's Rob Elliot will no provide cover for David Forde in goal.
