If Ireland win the Six Nations Championship tomorrow, it will be bittersweet for one man.

Leinster flanker Sean O'Brien would have been a certain starter during the tournament but for a cruel injury which sidelined him for the entire championship and the rest of the season.

While O'Brien can put his feet up, his disappointment was palpable as he spoke to Ger tonight.

"It's certainly difficult when you'd love to be involved with the team. They're doing very well and hopefully the result goes our way," said Sean O'Brien who explained that he had been in contact with some of the team early on in the championship. But the Tullow Tank has shied away from the Ireland setup as the Six Nations hots up.

"Going along then, you're thinking I need to stay away from this now. You have to let them get on with their jobs. There's no use you hanging around or contacting them too much."

O'Brien is trying to build his way back to fitness following shoulder surgery and he confirmed that he faces a "grueling six or seven weeks" ahead.

And in his spare time, he is helping the Carlow footballers out once a week, particularly on the psychological side of the game.

O'Brien also spoke about his plans after he finishes his rugby career and also gave his take on Ireland's chances in the France game.
