Violent at times and filled with acts of petulance often perpetrated by Real Madrid's Pepe, yesterday's Madrid derby was still a brilliant exhibition of football.

The 2 - 2 draw featured excellent goals from Karim Benzema, Koke, Gabi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but it also leaves Atletico's weaker squad three points behind Real as the title race enters it's final 10 weeks.

Our European football correspondent Graham Hunter still sees some hope for Los Colchoneros as they keep themselves in touch with the top after some chastening recent results in the league and Copa del Rey, where they lost 5 - 0 on aggregate to Real Madrid last month.

"Before kick-off, it was imperative that [Atletico] did not lose. I think it was imperative, that having gone behind to Benzema's sucker punch goal, that they weren't pushed around and thrashed again - which could have happened. Although they'll be deeply frustrated after leading 2 - 1 at half-time, I think the draw was worth a point and a half at least and maybe two. They had to show up and they did."
