Connacht's Matt Healy appears set to earn a call-up to Ireland's squad for the Tour to South Africa.

Originally omitted from Joe Schmidt's selection, an injury to Leinster's Luke Fitzgerald means that Healy is in line to get a call-up.

Fitzgerald damaged his knee in Leinster's defeat to Pat Lam's Connacht side in the Pro 12 final in Edinburgh on Saturday.

Healy appears to be the likely replacement in the panel from the current Connacht back-three as Schmidt suggested in his press conference today, as he spoke highly of that trio.

"Certainly the back three for Connacht in the weekend between Niyi [Adeolokun], Matt [Healy] and Tiernan [O'Halloran], I thought they had a super game and obviously that will immediately put pressure on their opponents and I suppose one of the products of that is unfortunately Luke Fitzgerald picked up a knee injury in the game and he will be replaced and one of those Connacht players is likely to be right in the frame to be his replacement," said Schmidt.

"Matt would certainly be one of the guys in contention. He's a left wing, left-footer which would be a like-for-like with Luke Fitzgerald so Matt would certainly be one of the guys in contention."
