Ahead of the 144th Open at The Old Course in St Andrews, Shane O'Donoghue spoke to Ivan on Newstalk Breakfast to look ahead to the third major of the year.

Jordan Spieth has won the years opening two major but "I think its going to be a tough task for him" according to the CNN Living Golf host. O'Donoghue feels the Spieth's lack of experience in mastering links golf may be his downfall though.

Dustin Johnson "fits the bill" as a potential winner, O'Donoghue told Ivan. The American star had a putt to win the US Open last month, but three putts on the final green on Sunday ended his chances of a first major win.

Last weeks Scottish Open winner, Rickie Fowler goes into the tournament as one of the favourites. The American, who had a stellar amateur career playing on links courses added a win at Gullane last week to the 30th place he had at the Irish Open. O'Donoghue says that Fowler is "so creative" and has shown "great links form" recently.

Shane Lowry is the best of the Irish contenders for the Claret Jug, Ivan was told by Shane. The Offaly golfer has "genius in his fingertips" according to the CNN and Fox Sports host.

Thomas Bjorn, Greg Owen and Rod Pampling get the tournament underway in the morning at 6.32am.
