Dean Gardiner was beaten in the European Elite Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria today.

The Tipperary man was beaten on a unanimous decision by Croatia's No.1 seed Filip Hrgovic in the super-heavyweight division. 

Welterweight Adam Nolan progressed to the last 16 at the European Elite Championships earlier having beaten Turkey’s Onder Sipal on a majority decision.

Irish interest in the Championships continue later tonight as Joe Ward faces Russian light-heavyweight Idris Shakhmonov at around 6pm Irish time.

Tomorrow, in the last 16, Michael Conlon will fight France's Anthony Brett while Dean Walsh takes on either Romania's Florentin Niculescu or Norway's Hassan Srour in the 56kg class and Darren O’Neill will fight Evegeny Tischenko of Russia in the 91kg class.
