The tournament will be the second World Cup in a row to be held in Europe. France hosted the event two years ago, where Ireland created history by defeating the-then reigning champions New Zealand before eventually losing to England in the semi-finals.

Ireland lost the 3rd/4th place playoff to hosts France. The fourth place finish remains Ireland's best ever in a senior World Cup tournament.

The opening match will take place in UCD on August 9th. The draw for the event happen in Belfast in November.
