Ireland's Josh Bouileau has knocked Shaun Murphy out of snooker's Welsh Open.

The Newbridge, Kildare man overcame his opponent 4-2 on Wednesday evening in an impressive result against the 2005 World Championship winner.

He was 3-0 up before Murphy fought back to bring it back to 3-2.

But Boileau took the final frame to advance to the third round where he will face Robert Milkins for a place in the quarter final.

Earlier, Dubliner Fergal O'Brien beat Chris Wakelin by four frames to two in their second round match.

They were locked at two frames each before O'Brien took the final two as he reached the third round for the second year in succession.

Last year, Mark Selby defeated him at that stage.

He will face the winner of the second round match between Ronnie O'Sullivan and Tom Ford in the third round.

There was another shock elsewhere as Ross Muir whitewashed Marco Fu, 4-0, while Lee Walker beat Neil Robertson 4-3.

Ken Doherty is the only Irish player to have won the Welsh Open, with the 1997 world champion triumphing twice in 1993 and 2001, while also reaching the final in 2002.

O'Sullivan is the reigning champion after beating Neil Robertson in the final.
