A first half Valeri Kazaishvili goal was enough to see Georgia claim all three points against Scotland in an important game with huge consequences for both Scotland and Ireland in Group D of the Euro 2016 qualifying group.

The Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi was the venue for a game that Scotland were favourites for as the visitors looked to put some distance between themselves and Ireland in fourth place ahead of Ireland's 7.45 kickoff against Gibraltar.

Georgia's number eight, Kazaishvili, showed some neat feet on 38 minutes before half volleying past David Marshall for the only goal of the contest.

Scotland were very much on the front foot for the remainder of the game and had a number of chances to draw level that they could not convert.

Scotland take on Germany on Monday with the chance of finishing third no longer in their own hands.

Ireland take on Gibraltar tonight and a win means they leapfrog Scotland into third place on 12 points. That is just one behind Germany and two behind leaders Poland.

That is, of course, dependent on a victory tonight for the boys in green.
