David Oliver Joyce is going to the Rio Olympics.

Two of the three judges awarded him victory in his lightweight box-off against Turkey's Volkan Gokcek at the European Olympic qualifiers in Turkey.

Joyce, of St Michael's Athy, had lost to Britain’s Joseph Cordina by unanimous decision in his semi-final, but took his chance in today's box-off against Gokcek to reach his first Olympics.

Earlier, Katie Taylor got back to winning ways.

The Olympic champion beat Bulgaria's Svetlana Staneva by unanimous decision in their third place box-off in the lightweight division.

The Bray fighter suffered a shock defeat to Azerbaijan’s Yana Alexseevna in the semi-finals on Friday delaying her qualification for this summer's games.

Brendan Irvine qualified for Rio after a box-off yesterday, and along with Joyce, will join Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan, Steven Donnelly and Joe Ward at the Olympics.
