The Republic of Ireland will face Italy in a friendly international in London this summer.

The FAI has confirmed that Martin O'Neill's side will challenge the four-time World Cup winners at Fulham's Craven Cottage on May 31st, which is just six days after their end-of-season friendly against Turkey at the Aviva Stadium.

Italy will use the game as preparation for their trip to the World Cup in Brazil, where they have been drawn in Group D alongside England, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

Ireland last played Italy at Euro 2012 in a 2 - 0 defeat in which Antonio Cassano and Mario Balotelli found the net.

The FAI is still planning to confirm further friendly fixtures for this summer, with a mooted friendly against Portugal in New York yet to be finalized.
