The rest of the opening weekend Allianz Hurling League's fixtures took place today, with Galway and Waterford opening their campaign with victories.

Galway were comfortable winners over Cork at Pearse Stadium, with the scoreline finishing 1-27 to 1-21after a classy performance from the Tribesmen.

Seamus Harnedy's goal did have Cork in front early in the game but Niall Burke responded with a three pointer of his own and Galway never looked back.

In division 1A's other fixture, Waterford defeated Kilkenny 0-14 to 0-10 in a physical encounter at Walsh Park, and in the process claiming a first win over the Cats since 2009.

There was never much between the sides as they drew level on a number of occasion but a red card shown to Kilkenny's Colin Fennelly decided the fate of the game as a gap began to appear between the sides.
