When Arsenal meet Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this afternoon the game will not only provide a crucial result on the way to deciding the title race, but also marks a major milestone as Arsene Wenger reaches his 1,000th game in charge of Arsenal today.

Chelsea hold a four point lead over their London rivals but know that a defeat would open the door for Man City and Liverpool to move ahead of them, while bringing Arsenal to within a point.

Arsene Wenger believes the close run nature of the title race this season is remarkable: “You have Chelsea, you have Man City, you have Liverpool and you have Arsenal. That has not happened for years, to fight for the Premiership. That makes it really interesting. None of these four teams can say they are not going for it, it would be stupid.”

Wenger has reiterated his desire to continue his spell at Arsenal beyond this season, saying he is keen to sign a new deal with the club.

“I want to do well, and the expectation level and the impatience is there.

“My commitment is full. I do not want to look somewhere else. I want to stay here. There shouldn’t be any uncertainty at all. My desire is to stay.”
