Toulon president Bernard Lemaitre has threatened to boycott the Heineken Champions Cup in the future in the wake of their canceled last-16 tie against Leinster.

The knock-out encounter was called off just hours before kick-off at the RDS due to an unnamed player at the French club testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.

Toulon travelled to Ireland without the player and their full squad returned negative PCR test results on Thursday. Leinster are set to advance directly to the competition's quarter-finals.

"It’s disgusting. The player tested positive on Wednesday and was immediately isolated, the EPCR was immediately informed, but let us go to Dublin," Lemaitre claims

‘And despite totally negative re-test of the players last night at 8pm, these people took this decision less than five hours before the match.

"We are treated like a Kleenex. There's anger and disgust. I am not at all sure that Toulon will re-enter the European Cup."

In a statement, Toulon have also hit out the "error of allowing the players and staff to travel to Ireland, prepare for the match, only to have them prevented from taking part in this major event a few hours before kick-off."

"The Rugby Club Toulon strongly deplores this decision."
