Aside from Ulster and Connacht, it was a poor weekend for the Irish provinces in Europe.

Munster and Leinster lost their respective pool matches against Clermont and Harlequins.

Ex-Leinster player Liam Toland and former Connacht back Gavin Duffy were on analysis for the Leinster match, and Toland picked out a few areas to improve upon after the 24 - 18 defeat at the Stoop.

"If you up your intensity, it will cover an awful lot of the cracks," he said, also pointing out that Matt O'Connor's side were too lateral in their approach at times.

"Going back to systems, the cleverness and the accuracy of play, I think that has been sliding slowly over the last while."
