Iceland's national football team has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence in the past couple of years.

While there could be another peak to come in the future, their greatest achievement to date is their awe-inspiring run to the quarter-finals at Euro 2016 this summer where they held Portugal to a draw, defeated Austria and sensationally knocked out England in the Round of 16.

A sure sign that a football nation has made an impact at international level would come by way of their inclusion in merchandise and tie-ins.

The most high-profile would be getting the team included on the list of national teams in EA Sports' FIFA video game series.

FIFA 17 is the latest in the line but it won't feature Iceland because their FA were not happy with the financial offer made to them by Electronic Arts in return for use of their image rights, nor did EA accept their counter offer.

"We don't accept bad treatment. They offered under two million Icelandic crowns (€15,496)," Iceland's FA chief Geir Thorsteinsson told AFP.

"I think hundreds of millions play this game. Iceland is a cult team so it would get even more attention. It is often the smaller teams with interesting players that get popular in this game."
