John Giles is keeping his fingers crossed that Roy Keane's autobiography will not affect the Ireland squad during the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers.

The Ireland assistant's book, which is being ghost-written by Roddy Doyle, will be launched on October 9th, just before matches against Gibraltar and Germany.

Keane may get his back on Alex Ferguson but other potential and as yet unknown revelations could be an issue.

John joined us as always on a Thursday night and he hopes anything that comes to light does not affect the squad's preparations.

"I hope it's not a distraction for the team. But there's always a possibility that it will. There's certainly going to be a lot of publicity surrounding it because of the Ferguson situation. So I could say the Irish team could do without it," said John.

"But I hope finger's crossed that it won't affect the players in the Irish team."

John also previewed Saturday lunchtime's Merseyside derby and feels that Liverpool's poor start to the season shows that Luis Suarez is "irreplaceable".

He also added that Brendan Rodgers is not showing the ability to organise a defence in the way that Jose Mourinho can.

He was also critical of Roberto Martinez's tactics and the sometimes high defensive line which has been breached numerous times, although he admires the Spaniard's time at Everton.

John also assessed how Manchester United can improve their porous and injury-ravaged defence, and does not think Louis Van Gaal is organising the resources available to him very well.

He also believes the media and fans have been much kinder to the Dutchman in comparison to his predecessor David Moyes this time last year.

John also had his say on West Ham manager Sam Allardyce commenting on other teams.
