Former Ireland rugby international Hugo MacNeill has praised the work of the GAA in helping in the bid to try and secure the 2023 World Cup.
MacNeill, who is part of the board overseeing Ireland's bid alongside the likes of Dick Spring, Brian O'Driscoll and GAA director general Pauric Duffy, was speaking to Newstalk's Oisin Langan in Limerick at the Sports Tourism Summit in Limerick.
"Pauric Duffy has been appointed and he's been fantastic because this thing wouldn't happen without the full support of the GAA. In the first phase of working on it, working with Pauric and the GAA was an absolute pleasure," he said, adding that the board's composition may be added to in the next few weeks.
MacNeill also emphasised that Ireland securing hosting rights for the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup will be of benefit to the 2023 bid as a "great statement".
He also said that having the full support and participation of icons like Brian O'Driscoll in the bid process shows how serious Ireland is to secure the 2023 tournament.
