There was a dramatic drop in attendance for this year's Open at Hoylake compared to when the Liverpool course held the tournament in 2006.
Just over 26,000 fewer spectators turned out at Royal Liverpool, compared to when Tiger Woods lifted the Claret Jug there eight years ago.
However, the overall figure of nearly 203,000 over the four days beat last year's total at Muirfield, where just over 142,000 fans went to watch the action unfold.
