Fourth place and the FA Cup trophy would be considered a solid return for Arsene Wenger this season.

While the latter remains to be completed, the Gunners did not improve on their league position from last season, even if they were truly involved in the title race for the first time since the end of the last decade.

But what do Arsenal fans make of their squad this season?

The team at Beat Your Manager! Fantasy Football have all the answers.

  • At 99 per cent, Bacary Sagna is the most popular player in Arsenal fan lineups, closely followed by the acclaimed defensive partnership of Per Mertesacker (95 per cent) and Laurent Koscielny (83 per cent).
  • One would assume that Lukas Podolski would have been more popular with fans than with Arsene Wenger. But over the course of the season, manager and supporters used the German the same number of times.
  • Before January, Jack Wilshere appeared in more fan selections than Mikel Arteta but this has swung back in the Spaniard's favour owing to his English counterpart's recent injury problems.
  • Mathieu Flamini may be terrier-like in midfield but only sneaks into 19 per cent of fan team sheets.
  • From a low base, Nicklas Bendtner is more popular in the second half of the season, jumping from 20 per cent to 31 per cent. But Tomas Rosicky rises from 29 per cent in the first half of the season to 46 per cent since the winter.
  • And so we move on to the club's finest player this season. As the graph below shows, Aaron Ramsey suddenly found himself included in fan line ups after one match at the beginning of the season but has made slightly fewer appearances in fan selections since his return from injury.

Beat Your Manager! Fantasy Football is an app similar to “Football Manager for live football”, where you manage your favourite Club and pick lineups, bench, formations and substitutions, all in real-time.
