The event with most local interest at Limerick Racecourse on Thursday night, had nothing to do with horses.

Limerick GAA were having their Club Limerick Raceday at the course, with the Novelty Race taking centre stage for local clubs.

Taking place on the home straight over 800 metres, the race was won by Mark Carmody from Bruff GAA after an outstanding comeback in the final metres of the race. The late surge was work the pain for Carmody as he helped his club win €500, while bagging himself a €100 voucher too.

You have to feel sorry for the runner who came in second place. It was reminiscent of Devon Loch's fall in the 1956 Grand National.
