As things stand in Serie A this season, Internazionale and AC Milan are miles away from a return to the Champions League, a competition the San Siro flatmates have won 10 times between them.

And with the problems both clubs are encountering on and off the pitch, it would seem that we are in danger of seeing both of these giants languishing in our faded memories for many years to come.

This week on Team 33, we chatted to Paddy Agnew, author of Forza Italia: The Fall and Rise of Italian Football and Rome correspondent for The Irish Times about a fall from grace in Milan.

He charted the fall of both clubs within the prism of decaying Italian football, explaining how Inter and Milan got themselves into the situation they find themselves in.

But Agnew also looks to the future and muses whether Inter, in fact, have a brighter future than Milan, based on their distinct circumstances.

In the chat we talk about the potential new stadiums that Inter and Milan will look to move to; how TV rights deals affect Serie A's big clubs; and Agnew assesses whether both Serie A clubs  - Inter in particular - are making the most of excellent youth systems.

And the final big question: Can Agnew envisage either Milan club challenging for the Champions League again within the next decade?
