Harry Redknapp has tipped Wayne Rooney to be a useful signing for Arsenal or Chelsea.
The Manchester United captain has been dropped from the starting team after poor form of late.
With his long-term future at Old Trafford not fully clear if things continue as they are, ex-Tottenham and West Ham manager Redknapp believes a "change of scenery" could do him good.
But he does not think the England record goalscorer is ready for a full-time role in midfield.
"He's suffered with his form and I hope he revives himself at Old Trafford but if not a change of scenery could do him good," he wrote in his Evening Standard column.
"He would be a great signing for a couple of seasons and could have a major impact on a Premier League club. He could tip the balance for a top-four team if United were to let him go. I’d take Wayne at Arsenal or Chelsea and he has to play as a No.9 or 10 — midfield isn't for him yet."
