Ireland's Padraig Harrington and Shane Lowry have been paired together for the start of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am which begins in California on Thursday.

Seamus Power is the other Irish player in the field which includes most of the world's top players. Jason Day, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth will all be attendance but Rory McIlroy is absent as he recovers from the rib injury he sustained in South Africa last month.

The world's form player, Hideki Matsuyama, isn't taking part in California this week. Elsewhere, Phil Mickelson, has won the event four times and has been paired with Smylie Kaufmann when he tees off tomorrow.

The tournament takes the unusual format of being played on three rotating courses where the 156-man gathering will compete at Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Monterey Peninsula Country Club’s Shore Course.

The tournament has been played since 1937 and the defending champion is Vaughan Taylor, who beat Phil Mickelson by one shot last year.
