Padraig Harrington and Shane Lowry have both had disappointing third rounds at The Open Championship, with Harrington dropping 6 shots to fall to 11 over, while Shane Lowry hit 4 over today, leaving the Offaly man on 10 over for the tournament.
Lowry began the day well, going one under for the round with a birdie on the second. From there it was all downhill, however, with bogeys at the third, twelfth and seventeenth, and a double bogey at the par 4 sixth.
Harrington was sitting comfortably on level par through the first 4 holes, but a double bogey at the par 3 fifth set a downward spiral in motion, as the Dubliner then bogeyed the sixth, tenth, sixteenth and eighteenth holes.
Harrington now sits at tied seventy seventh, just five places and 3 shots above the bottom of the remaining contenders, while Lowry is at tied 66th.
Meanwhile, Graeme McDowell has shot two over for the day, with four bogeys and two birdies so far. McDowell is currently on the thirteenth hole, having birdied the twelfth.
Darren Clarke remains the only Irish golfer still with a chance at glory, as he sits 4 shots off the lead, at 1 under. Clarke is currently playing the third hole, having hit par on the first two holes.
