He will start just ahead of Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg by 0.113 second margin as the two-time champion protects a 10 point lead.
Jenson Button qualified 18th, a place ahead of Will Stevens.

The Williams pipped the Ferraris with Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas in third and fourth respectively ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastien Vettel.
