"Zarkandar", ridden by Ruby Walsh, has won the Aintree Hurdle on the opening day of this week's Grand National festival.

The Paul Nicholls trained 11-to-2 shot finished ahead of the 11-to-4 favourite "The New One".

Earlier, the Irish challenge registered their first win of the week when the Mouse Morris trained "First Lieutenant" captured the Betfred Bowl Chase.

Kerry jockey Bryan Cooper was on board the 7-to-2 shot.
