When Fernando Torres left Atletico Madrid in 2007, it was clear he was going places and the club would remain inconsistent and clawing for former glories.

Yet the roles are reversed as El Nino returns to the Vicente Calderon on loan following poor spells at Chelsea and Milan.

While there seems to be major sentimental value behind the transfer, manager Diego Simeone does not appear to be a man beholden to such things.
