Since the shooting of nine churchgoers in Charleston, United States, the place of the Confederate flag in American sport and society is under renewed focus.

Off The Ball's Donny Mahoney recently spoke about it on our US sports slot, highlighting the links to slavery and racism which the flag represents.

The Stars and Bars also appears on the roof of the famous 'General Lee' car used in hit TV series The Dukes of Hazzard with toy versions of the car to no longer display the design on its roof.

Two-time Masters winning golfer Bubba Watson, who acquired the vehicle in 2012, has also stepped into the debate and pledged to paint over the Confederate Flag on 'General Lee' and replace it with the American flag in the name of equality:
