Gloucester have been crowned the inaugural European Challenge Cup winners.

Despite being reduced to 14 men after a red card shown to Bill Meakes midway through the second-half for a high tackle, Gloucester held out for a deserved 19-13 victory over Edinburgh at the Twickenham Stoop.

Greig Laidlaw kicked 14 points against his former club, while England international Billy Twelvetrees got Gloucester's try.

Ross Ford scored Edinburgh's try, with Sam Hidalgo-Clyne kicking two penalties and one conversion.

The English side defeated Connacht in the quarter-finals last month en route to this year's final.
