John Giles feels Gareth Bale needs to stand up to Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Spanish club was knocked out of the Champions League by Juventus last night with rumours of friction within the camp and question marks over Gareth Bale's standing in a dressing room seemingly dominated by Ballon D'Or holder Ronaldo.

John told Off The Ball: "When Ronaldo made the gesture a couple of months ago, I think he should have confronted Ronaldo after that, and tell him 'this is not on, we're playing on the same team, I didn't pass you the ball because a shot was on'. He's got to take him on and stand up for himself and I don't think he's done that," said John.

"If [Ronaldo] was intimidating him, which I think he is, [Bale should] say to him 'I'm here to play football, now you F off."

But John does not believe the claim made by Bale's agent that Real players are reluctant to pass the ball to the Welshman, and added that he would not be surprised if Manchester United made a move for Bale.
