As the Premier League kicks off Coutinho's future at Merseyside remains in doubt and Johnny Giles believes that his future will offer an insight into the future of the club:

"Well, I think if anybody goes to Manchester City or Manchester United, with a similar offer for a similar player they'd say 'get lost.' They don't have to be a selling club.

"This is now an opportunity for Liverpool or a problem for them, are they a big club? If they are a big club, they say clear off. We're not selling him under any circumstances. If they sell him they're just another selling club," he told Off The Ball.

It's understood Philippe Coutinho's told Liverpool he wants to leave for Barcelona - and he's unhappy with how he has been treated by manager Jurgen Klopp.

Earlier the club's owners insisted he won't be sold. Liverpool have already rejected a £90m bid from Barca.

"Go to Manchester United for a player, are they going to sell him for the money? No. Go to Manchester City, are they going to sell him for the money? No. They are the big clubs," Giles added.

He also discussed the prospects of the two Manchester clubs, Arsenal, and Spurs.
