Los Angeles Galaxy-bound Steven Gerrard wants Liverpool to back manager Brendan Rodgers.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of his final home match for Liverpool at Anfield this Saturday against Crystal Palace, the 35-year-old called for the Reds' owners to give the manager his support.

"I'm hoping that the owners will back Brendan again and bring in that bit of quality that can help us go one step further next year. We've come close in a couple of competitions this season and we've also got close to the Top Four positions and that's with losing arguably the best player in the world last year in Luis Suarez and also not having our star striker available for much of the season in Daniel Sturridge," he said.

While the former England captain reminisced about the many trophies he won at Liverpool, he also spoke of his most glaring regret as a club player.

"Certainly not winning the Premier League will be a dent in that. There's nothing I can do about it no," he said, adding that he has been "dreading" the prospect of playing for a final time at Anfield.
