If there is one major stumbling block on the horizon for Dublin and Jim Gavin, it might be the burden of expectation as Gavin’s young side have seen themselves made most people’s favourites to dethrone Jim McGuinness’s Donegal as All-Ireland champions.

Yesterday saw Dublin take a narrow league final win over Tyrone, and with it please their manager by passing their first major test of the year. Gavin was speaking with Newstalk's Oisin Langan.

“There were some serious questions asked of the squad in general and I think they came out on the right side of it.
“(They) Came out of a big test against a big, big team like Tyrone,” Gavin said.

“I’m acutely aware of that expectation that is within Dublin, but that’s good. Obviously that people think the players are there to win titles,” he added.

Gavin has enriched the Dublin panel with new faces from the under 21 side and he feels his young charges are acquitting themselves well thus far.

“Things are going as planned.

“It’s satisfying to see that they can step up to the mark in the national league.”
