Jim Gavin sees no justification to the calls to split Dublin GAA into two separate entities, questioning why Dublin should face segregation in the interests of fairness when other counties have dominated to a far higher level in recent years and never had to entertain the idea.

“Dublin have won one All Ireland in the last 17 years at senior level. Kerry were dominant in the 2000’s in football, and Kilkenny and Cork in the hurling, and I didn’t hear any talk of splitting those counties in half. It has to be one size fits all. The underage structures in Dublin are quite strong and due to the great vision in the administration quite a number of years ago.

Gavin has started his career as manager of the Dublin senior footballers well, with two wins from two and as the Dubs prepare to face Mayo at Croke Park on Saturday evening, in a repeat of last year’s All Ireland semi-final, he spoke to Newstalk’s Oisin Langan about his start to life with the Dublin senior team.
