Gary Keegan has announced that he is stepping down as the Irish Institute of Sport Director after the Rio Olympics to pursue a new business venture.

Keegan was the first director of Irish boxing's High Performance Unit before heading up the Institute of Sport and he is now planning to launch a high performance support service to the world of business in early 2017.

He originally took up the role in September 2008 following the Beijing Olympic.

"My decision to depart at this time reflects my desire and appetite for a new challenge in my own pursuit of excellence. My intention moving forward is to launch a new high performance support offering for the world of business in early 2017," he said.
