Galway have taken another step closer to swapping the Leinster Hurling Championship for the Munster Championship.

A discussion for the move will be brought to next month's county convention, according to the Irish Independent. The motion, tabled by The Liam Mellows club in Galway City, seeks to allow the county to approach the Munster Council with a view to joining the province from the 2018 season.

The issue arises as Galway seek full 'home and away' arrangements which they have not been granted in Leinster.

The motion requests that the "Official Guide 2016 be amended to allow access to all Inter-County Hurling Teams from Galway - Minor, U-21, Junior, Intermediate and Senior to participate fully in all relevant Tier 1 Competitions in a single Provincial System" and that Galway officials are "further authorised to make an immediate application to Comhairle Mumhan, to be fully included in all their Provincial Championships and Competitions, at all grades of Inter-County Hurling from 2018 forward."

Galway joined the Leinster Championship in 2009 and have won just one Leinster crown in 2012. The county convention takes place in Galway on December 12th.
