The Ireland Under-20 rugby team have taken a major scalp in their second match of the World Championship against New Zealand.

The Irish side defeated their counterparts 33-24 in Manchester to make history.

They are the first Irish men's side to defeat a New Zealand side at any level.

Leinster's Greg Jones and Ulster's Adam McBurney got two of Irish tries, before Max Deegan added another crucial one.

Ireland had suffered a blow by losing Johnston to a shoulder injury just before the break.

But Nigel Carolan's side followed up a 26-25 win over Grand Slam champions Wales in their opening game, with another outstanding result.

Next up for Ireland is a match against Georgia in Pool A.
