On a weekend where the Irish men's rugby team saw their Six Nations dreams demolished in Cardiff, the Irish women's team restored our hope with a crucial win over Wales today to keep hopes of a Grand Slam alive.

The first half was largely deprived of scores from either side and it took an Irish maul, finished by a leap from Lindsay Peat to hit the opening try of the game.

That gave Ireland a 7-0 advantage heading into the break. Peat was then sent to the sin-bin shortly after the restart, which led to a Shona Powell-Hughes tries which was followed by a conversion to even up the tie.

Wales were then hit by a yellow-card for a high challenge on Kim Flood and Ireland took full advantage of their numerical superiority to put Hannah Tyrrell over the try-line to edge us in front.

Nora Stapleton missed the conversion, but Ireland held on for a victory to make it four wins from four for Ireland.
