Former Kildare defender Andriu Mac Lochlainn has backed Joe Brolly’s complaints about the plight of modern Gaelic footballers.

The Sunday Game pundit told Off The Ball last night that today’s GAA players are like “indentured slaves”, and Mac Lochlainn agrees with the Derryman’s general point.

“Joe’s obviously very vocal on a lot of areas,” the Ellistown clubman told Newstalk's Oisin Langan. “But what he was saying, some of it was quite true.

“I do think that the commitment levels being asked of players ... it just can only go one way, and it’s complete player burnout.”

Mac Lochlainn, who was vocal himself on the same topic when he ended his time with Kildare as a 29-year-old after the 2012 season, added:  “I couldn’t start my financial services business until I stepped away from football - due to time commitments.”

“Your life is on hold permanently when you’re trying to play football,” Mac Lochlainn continued, but he admitted that, “you do sign up to it willingly”.

While he was in agreement with Brolly's overall issue, Mac Lochlainn doesn’t think that Gaelic football is getting boring.
