Hall of Fame boxing coach Freddie Roach has revealed he was approached by people representing Conor McGregor in recent days to help the Dublin fighter with his boxing skills.

The UFC Featherweight Champion has been reported involved in discussions for a cross-code fight against boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather later this year. As unlikely as that fight sounds, McGregor has been teasing fans about the prospect in previous days.

Roach has trained former Irish world champions Steve Collins and Bernard Dunne, and has said he would have no problem working with McGregor, but would not train him if a fight with Mayweather was on the cards.

"I'm not to train him to fight Mayweather. I'd have to train him for at least three years to get him ready for Mayweather. He's a little green. He's good at MMA but boxing? I don't know."

If the fight were to somehow happen, Roach could only see one winner. "Let's face it, if you fight boxing rules the boxer will win. If you fight MMA rules, the MMA fighter will win. It's just the way it is. They're two totally different sports."

"If he comes, I will help him. If he needs help in boxing, that's all I can help him with", Roach added. Whether or not the request from McGregor is legitimate remains to be seen.
